Since 1992, copper-plated zinc has been used. The 5ยข coin is struck in brass, whilst the highest 3 denominations are struck in cupronickel. The $1 coin is a 7-sided equilaterally-curved piece. Many of the coins in circulation have been struck at the Royal Canadian Mint.
