General Description This coin was struck when Canada was still a province of the British Empire.

Called 1 Sou because of its French coin counterpart.

In 1852 the Quebec Bank was the only one allowed to order coins from the City Bank to commemorate the Lower Canadian rebellion from the Patriotes of 1837.
Obv. Description Habitant and legend PROVINCE DU CANADA (Province of Canada).
Rev. Description Strenna, goddess of activity and labor at the edge of the Cap Diamant by the St. Lawrence river in Quebec city showing a ship sailing east, sign of commerce and prosperity, by her feet a beaver, she is holding some wheat sprigs in her left hand and a cornucopia in her right hand.
