General Description This series of bank notes is a transitional series as the Bank of Canada started developing new technologies designed to combat counterfeiting. From a design perspective these bills feature a large portait on the left and a large denomination figure on the bottom right. The date on these bills is tiny and relegated to the bottom right corner of this bill on the face and the back.
Front Description The front portrays a portrait of Sir Wilfrid Laurier
(Sir Wilfrid Laurier was the first French-Canadian prime minister and held office from 1896 to 1911. He was born in St. Lin, Quebec on 20 November 1841 and died on 17 February 1919.) Signatures on these bills were either M.D. Knight - D.A. Dodge or W.P. Jenkins - D.A. Dodge. This bill depicts the Knight-Dodge signatures.
Back Description The back depicts children at play in three winter sports, toboggan riding, skating and hockey. On the back these words by Roch Carrier are inscribed, The winters of my childhood were long, long seasons. We lived in three places - the church, the school and the skating rink - but our real life was on the skating rink.
