General Description | The 1 Cent banknote has always been very popular even though it has very little value. An assessment once noted that there was over 1 Million Dollars worth of these notes in circulation. That would be over 100,000,000 bank notes issued. The Coinage Bill of June 17, 1994 brought about the demise of the 1 Cent note in preparation for the handover to China. |
Front Description | Brown and green in colour with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown. Across the top is "The Government of HongKong" and the signature for the Government of Hong Kong Sir J.H. Bremridge (Financial Secretary) is in the centre on the bottom. The note is bilingual in English and Chinese and states "These (One Cent) Notes are legal tender for the payment of any amount not exceeding one dollar. |
