General Description Justo José de Urquiza y García (October 18, 1801 – April 11, 1870) was an Argentine general and politician. He was president of the Argentine Confederation from 1854 to 1860. In he 1853 enacted the National Constitution and fought for the union of Argentina, promoting the welfare and progress.
In the bicentenary of his birth, the Banco Central issued a 1 Peso coin in circulation quality with similar characteristics to those currently in circulation, and a 5 Pesos gold coin in "brilliant uncirculated" quality. Some of the pieces coined as circulation are presented in cardboard boxes with a brief biography and characteristics of the issuance. The coins included in this type of case have plain edge and those presented in loose have reeded edge.
Obv. Description Shows, on the main impresion, the portrait of Gral Urquiza in front view whit the year of his birth "1801" in the left and the year of commemoration "2001" in the right. In the lower arch, the legend "Gral. JUSTO JOSE de URQUIZA" and in the upper arch "REPUBLICA ARGENTINA"
Rev. Description Shows part of the Palacio de San Jose, former personal residence of Urquiza, and on the right the value "1" whit the word "Peso". Around: the year of issue "2001" opposed to "1851", year that recalls the statement by Urquiza, and the legend "SAN JOSE".
