General Description | The Australian dollar (=100 cents) replaced the Australian pound on 14 February 1966 as part of its decimalisation process. Australian 1 cent coin was introduced in 1966 and was the least-valued Australian circulation coin until it was withdrawn from circulation in 1992 (along with the 2-cent piece). The coins were then melted down to make bronze medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics.
