General Description The maple leaf is a proud and distinctive Canadian symbol, appearing on all Canadian coins minted between Confederation 1867 and present except in 1967.
The shape of the coin was altered (1982) to make identification easier for the visually impaired, the coin has 12 sides.
Obv. Description Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the Latin inscription ELIZABETH II D G REGINA
The inscription is an abbreviated form of the one used from 1953-1964. Since 1979 the effigy is slightly smaller than before
Rev. Description 1 cent with 2 maple leaves on the same twig, the date on the left and CANADA at the bottom
