General Description The coin was chosen through a televised contest involving a public phone in vote. The interpretation for the coin was engraved by Claudia Momoni and it includes the interconnected letters IR (Repubblica Italiana) and the year is shown to the left with the mint mark below between the stars.
Obv. Description The Italian design is a depiction of Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus. Botticelli was a Florentine artist in the Early Renaissance, characterised as a golden age. His Venus is one of the most famous paintings in the world and considered a triumph of Italian art.
