General Description | If I am correct in what type of coin this is (i.e. 1 Reale), this coin was used in the early days of the United States of America as silver coinage. Often this coin would be divided in eight pieces and used as currency for goods and services. An old folk slogan in the USA is "shave and a haircut, 2 bits", referring to 2 pieces or bits of this coin.
