General Description The Lincoln Wheat Cent (sometimes referred to as a Strawpenny, Wheat penny, Wheatback, Wheat Head, or Wheatie) was a United States one-cent coin produced from 1909 to 1958. Some pennies in 1947 were manufactured from shell casings from bullets resulting in a sometimes darker color or discolorization.
Obv. Description A right-facing profile of Abraham Lincolm, the 16th President of the United States of America based on a Mathew Brady photograph .The front reads, "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY," date and mint mark
Rev. Description Two (2) wheatheads in memorial style. Between these, in the center of the coin, are the denomination and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, while curving around the upper border is the national motto, E Pluribus Unum, Latin for From Many, One Cent
