General Description : | At the beginning of his work, Brancusi sculptures were classical representations of human form. But the structure of his work progressed rapidly and from 1907 he no longer liked the realistic aesthetic. The period between 1987 - 1907 is characterized by an accumulation of knowledge and skill but also by searching for solutions in the modeling of materials. After 1905 the young artist's vision becomes clearer and stronger and he is trying to apply his feelings on his works. This work was presented by Brancusi at the exhibition organized in Paris by Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts in April 1907 under the name "Ebauches". The sculpture captures very well the expression of intelligence. The work is a combination of the teachings of Rodin and Medardo Rosso. It will be cast in bronze in 3 copies. Brancusi exhibit this work in 1912 at the Romanian Athenaeum, at the Official Salon. It is a work that first appeared on the occasion of the Centennial of the sculptor, in 1976, being part of a private collection. |
