General Description : | USS Halyburton (FFG-40), an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is a ship of the United States Navy named for Pharmacist's Mate Second Class William D. Halyburton, Jr. (1924–1945). Halyburton was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism while serving with the 5th Marines, during the Battle of Okinawa. Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light FOUR TWO (HSL-42) was established on 5 October 1984 as the East Coast's first LAMPS MK III squadron. The command includes 60 officers and 240 enlisted personnel with 15 Sikorsky SH-60B aircraft assigned to 10 permanent, independent detachments. |
