General Description : | This medal was created in 1951 and awarded through the end of the 1950s, until the split between Nikita Khruschev and Mao Tse-Tung meant THAT end of the on again/off again "friendship" of the two Communist super powers. Brass gilt, enamels; the medallion is 44.0 mm tall, 39.3 mm wide. Shows flags of USSR and Peoples Republic of China. This is one of the early variations of the medal featuring a date in raised numerals on the reverse (the more common later variety was without a date). Includes original 5-sided suspension ribbon with tin star in the center, and custom-made hard backing with pin attachment. The medal was issued to Soviet military and civilian personnel helping the Chinese during the Korean War. |
