General Description | The Mur des Canuts is located at the corner of boulevard des Canuts and Rochereau street on the Croix-Rousse hill, the working hill counterpart of Fourvière,the praying hill.Canut was the nickname of a silkworker. This mural of 1200 square meters, one of the largest in Europe created in 1987 by Citécréation,a world leader in wall painting, was designed not just as decoration of a ugly side of a block of flats but also to help people of the district rediscover their local identity and the life of the canuts. In place of a blank wall, one can see stairs in the middle like those on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, different paintings about the silk like a loom, silk reels...and a bank.If you need cash, you may insert your plastic card in its Atm! |
