General Description | This is the oldest bridge across Arad -- dividing it in half. According to popular sayings: to the north is Crisana & to the south is Banat. But that is a matter of opinion. In early twentieth century, the city administration proposed the building of Train Bridge, being accepted the construction project of the railway company from Austria. The engineer Robert Toth from Resita designed the bridge's plan. On 11 November 1910 , the bridge was officially handed over the administration of Arad. The end of the Second World War was crucial, the bridge being blown up, but fortunately, the resistance structure wasn't seriously affected and thus, after a few months, the bridge was rebuilt. Train Bridge was, until 1980, the only access route between Arad and Timisoara. |
