General Description | Symbol of the city, Saint Peter and Paul Fortress was the first building erected in 1703, when Tsar Peter the Great founded St. Petersburg. Inside the fortress is St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, built between 1712 and 1733 on the place where in the early 1700s there was a wooden church built of tar. And the angel that keeps hands cross on top of a gold coil Cathedral is one of the most important symbols of St. Petersburg. Locals call it in a familiar and simple “Angel” and are convinced that the height of 122.5 m North guard and protect capital. |
