General Description : | Maurits Karel Maria Willem Sabbe (Bruges, 9 February 1873- Antwerp, 12 February 1938) was a Flemish writer. He started his career as a teacher Dutch at the Royal Athenaeum in Bruges. In 1903, he became a teacher in Mechelen. As from 1907 he also taught at the theatre class of the Royal Flemish Academy of Antwerp. In 1919 he became Director of the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp and as from 1923 he became professor at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. He was buried at the Schoonselhof Cemetery in Antwerp. A statue of the writer was revealed in 1950, and stands at the Sashuis near the Minnewater in Bruges. |
