$1.80 2012 - Titanic 100th souvenir sheet
Added by Alain Martineau
General Description : Souvenir Sheet featuring the international rate stamp, which shows the full side view of the RMS Titanic. It marks the 100th anniversary (1912-2012) of RMS Titanic’s voyage and tragic sinking.
The Souvenir Sheet features the international rate stamp, which shows a full colour side illustration of the Titanic, sailing on a calm ocean. Titanic was almost 280 metres (883 feet) in length and, at the time, it was the largest passenger steamship in the world.
Marked on the map behind the ship are Southampton (England), Cape Race (Newfoundland) and Halifax (Nova Scotia)—all prominent locations in Titanic’s story.
Even after 100 years, interest in the Titanic remains strong. This year’s centennial events (including the re-release of James Cameron’s Titanic movie in 3D) will likely bring together a whole new audience of enthusiasts.
