General Description : | OFDC Cancellation Location: Québec QC n 2014, Notre-Dame de Québec marks its 350th anniversary. Bishop François de Laval established the parish on rue De Buade in Québec, September 15, 1664 – a mere 56 years after Samuel de Champlain founded the Habitation de Québec. Within the church you’ll find La Virgen y el Niño con San Juan Bautista (The Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist). The oil on canvas is the work of Flemish Baroque painter Abraham Janssens (or Janssen) van Nuyssen (circa 1567/76-1632). Born in Antwerp, this artist of chiaroscuro, bold composition and nudes was named dean of master-painters in 1607. Until the arrival of his lifelong adversary, Peter Paul Rubens, Janssens was thought to be a leading historical painter of his time. This stamp, featuring a painting treasured by Notre-Dame de Québec, is issued in honour of the parish’s 350-year milestone. |
