General Description : | With these stamps, we hope to preserve the legacy of the Canadians whose lives were deeply touched when Titanic sank off our coast. Canadian Post have unveiled the images that will go on a series of stamps to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. More than 1,500 people died on April 15, 1912, when the enormous Cunard liner sank after colliding with an iceberg off Newfoundland. The event has been immortalized in story, song and film, and given the centenary, the stamps are but one example of many memorial items. The Bow: Titanic's enormous bow and two front anchors appear in the centre of the first pair of stamps. When you're ready to mail, the pair separates into a right and left stamp. On the right side, you'll see Southampton (England), where the Titanic began her maiden voyage. Even after 100 years, interest in the Titanic remains strong. This year’s centennial events (including the re-release of James Cameron’s Titanic movie in 3D) will likely bring together a whole new audience of enthusiasts.
