General Description : | Portrait engraved by William F. Ford Based on a photograph by Bertram Park The accession to the throne of His Majesty King George VI necessitated the preparation of a new series of stamps bearing his portrait; he appeared in ordinary attire. The new issue of 1-cent, 2-cent, and 3-cent stamps released on 1st April, 1937, was the first series with the sovereign's portrait. He had been portrayed as Duke of York on the 2- cent brown in the King George V Silver Jubilee Canadian issue of 1935.
