General Description : | From the souvenir sheet Including 3 x $1.20 U.S. rates and 2 x $2.50 international rate stamps Photography: Government of Alberta OFDC Cancellation Location: Lunenburg NS These sites – some more than 5,700 years old – hold clues that whisper to all who visit. The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has recognized the significance of these places, and their irresistible call has been answered by travellers from around the world eager for a glimpse into the art, culture and lives of our ancestors. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, about 18 km northwest of Fort Macleod, is one of the world’s oldest and best preserved buffalo jumps. For 6,000 years, aboriginal plains people used the site for hunting bison by driving the herds over the cliffs and butchering the animals on the flats. |
