Kathryn Dawn Lang, born November 2, 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, known by her stage name k.d. lang, is a Canadian pop and country singer-songwriter and occasional actress.
Her 1984 independent label studio album A Truly Western Experience led to k.d. lang’s 1987 debut with Warner Bros., Angel With a Lariat, and a fast-growing and devoted following. In a career that has spanned nearly 30 years, she has sold millions of records worldwide and won both JUNO and Grammy awards. A recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, lang is also an Officer of the Order of Canada.
She blends elements of country, pop and rock in her music. Called “the best singer of her generation” by Tony Bennett, lang was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2013.
