Croatian Post and Telecommunications sells the First Day Cover FDC and the First Day Sheet. The stamp is issued in blocks of 50. Bjelovar is situated on the south-western slopes of Mt Bilogora, between the streams of Bjelovacka and Plavnica, tributaries of the Čazma. It was first recorded in a document by King Sigismond in 1423. It already had a great traffic and trade significance at the time, and during the Turkish invasions it was an important border fortress with a watchtower on the Military Border. The modern Bjelovar was built by a decree signed by the Queen Maria Theresa in 1755. In 1869 it was no longer in the Military Border and was made a centre of the Bjelovar-Križevci county in 1874 when the Croatian parliament made it a free royal town. Today, Bjelovar is the economic and administrative centre of Bjelovar-Bilogora county, and its population is 42 000.
