General Description : | Serie: 163, Type: R, Stamps in serie: 6 The settlement of Županja Blato was first recorded at the turn of the 13th century as one of the parishes in the newly established Vuka county. During the Turkish rule, between 1536 and 1691, Županja had no significance. When Slavonia was liberated, the islamized population moved to Bosnia, while the Prince Eugene of Savoy settled Slavonia, together with Županja and its surroundings, with Catholics from Bosnia. The Županja area became a part of the Military Border, and it became a border area between the Austrian and the Turkish empires, and the population were soldiers. When the Military Border was abolished in 1873, the Županja region became a part of Croatia. Since 1991 Županja has often been bombed by the Bosnian Serbs, and has been greatly damaged. Today Županja has a population of 15 000 and is in the Brod-Posavina county. |
