General Description : | In 1993 the Croatian people remember two great battles from their history. Both were fought against the conquering Turks, but their outcome was completely different. While the Croatian army was heavily defeated on September 9th 1493 in the Battle of Krbava, a hundred years later, in the Battle of Sisak on June 22nd 1593 it won a glorious victory over the Turks. Although the outcome of these two battles created completely different consequences for the course of Croatian history, every patriot will proudly remember the brave Croatian warriours who fought in them. The Battle at Sisak was a turning point in the balance of power between the Christians and the Ottoman Turks. From that point onwards the power of the Turks in Europe began to decline continously, and the Pope quite rightly called Croatia the "bulwark of Christianity" |
