General Description : | Gysbert Japiks or Japicx (1603–1666) was a Frisian writer, poet, schoolteacher and cantor. Japiks was born in Bolsward, Friesland. He admired Horace and Ovid and was a defender for the memmetaal (mother tongue) which elevated Frisian to literary status. His poems are included in Fryske rijmlerye (1688) and Friessche tjerne (1640). |
