General Description : | "Communist Romania" describes the period in Romanian history between 1947 and 1989 when the country was a Soviet-aligned Eastern Bloc socialist state with a dominant role for the Romanian Communist Party enshrined in its constitutions. Officially, the country was called the Romanian People's Republic (Romanian: Republica Populară Romînă, RPR) from 1947 to 1965 and the Socialist Republic of Romania (Republica Socialistă România, RSR) from 1965 to 1989. |
