General Description : | Type II, English Inscriptions. Also found in Latin inscription (Spheniscus demersus) The African penguin, Spheniscus dermersus, or black-footed penguin (also known as the jackass penguin because of its loud braying noise) A smallish penguin (about 60 cm) generally found on the west coast of Southern Africa but vagrant to Natal and Mozambique. It forages underwater at sea for fish (mainly anchovy) and squid. Comes ashore to roost and breed. |
