General Description : | This stamp was honored in the 100 Greatest U.S. Stamps book. The eagle is in a "V" shape for victory and is surrounded by 13 stars. It is grasping arrows, but has no olive branch. Its chest has the label "Win The War". The face value on the purple stamp is 3 cents and has "United States Postage" on the bottom. All lettering is in white Gothic. The stamp was first placed on sale at Washington, D.C., on July 4, 1942. |
