General Description : | Although one of the principal symbols of the United States, the Liberty Bell has not enjoyed depiction on U.S. postage stamps as much as other symbols. This stamp was used for the carrying of first class mail through the time that 13 cents was the rate. The accompanying legend appropriately reads: "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land." Liberty Bell move to Allentown, PA, for safety when the British occupied Philadelphia in 1777 |
