General Description : | The stamps, designed by Grassellini, depict details from a frieze in the Ospedale del Ceppo in Pistoia, Italy. The frieze, created in terracotta by Giovanni della Robbia, represents the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy. The 5-lire stamp depicts feeding the hungry. Only the right half of the frieze is shown on the stamp. Three Dominicans distribute bread to the hungry. Not seen at the left are Dominicans feeding the hungry at a table. |
